Gold Dust trail to Section House

Hi. Thinking about taking the Gold Dust trail to Section House in order to shave miles. versus the Boreas road.

My questions:
1. It looks like it is still not very steep. Would kids on classic nordic skis (with ad hoc skins duct taped on) be fine for traction (while carrying packs)?
2. Does the trailhead out of Como become dicey if there's fresh snow, or are we assured of being able to get in (and back out) all the way to the trailhead parking?
3. I am pretty sure there's limited avy exposure?
